Wheres the Honor in Honors Kids?(cheating habits of students) :: social issues

Where's the Honor in Honor's Kids?(cheating propensities for understudies) In opposition to mainstream thinking, praises understudies cheat the same amount of or more than understudies in standard classes do. Praises understudies are thought to be dedicated, dependable, and genuine. However these â€Å"above average† understudies are as often as possible partaking in the equivalent unscrupulous direct of the customary understudies, playing out the errand better and pulling off it more than the standard understudies. Clarifying why praises understudies are better at cheating is troublesome in light of the fact that each tricking understudy follows the equivalent unwritten procedure to control him to triumph. The procedure is basic. Initial a miscreant chooses how he is going to swindle. He has numerous choices including recording answers on different body parts (hand, thigh, and so forth.), making pocket-sized notes, approaching a prior class for the appropriate responses, and stealing. He can likewise put his hand upon his face (close to his eyes) calculated away from the instructor while turning his head somewhat the other way of the educator and take a gander at his neighbor’s paper. The accompanying strategies are unsafe and are held for the more courageous children. They are grabbing the teacher’s answer key, requesting help with an inquiry while looking at the appropriate response key (at a teacher’s work area), hacking into a teacher’s PC for grade modifications , and opening a course book on the ground while stepping through an examination. One of the most inventive techniques I’ve knew about is stripping the wrapping from a clean water contain to compose the appropriate responses on the clear side; at that point taping the wrapping back onto the jug uncovering the appropriate responses when one glances through the reasonable container. Obviously some customary understudies have been known to attempt these scheming procedures, they have been aced by the distinctions understudies. The second step in the conning procedure is the point at which an understudy reasonably envisions himself utilizing the method he picked in the initial step. This is an arranging stage that requires an understudy to imagine and set up his creating plan of cheating. The better the understudy can envision himself cheating, the almost certain he is to succeed. All things considered, careful discipline brings about promising results. For instance, if an understudy needed to compose replies within his bandage, he needs to envision himself stepping through the exam and cleverly pulling off the bandage when the teacher’s back is gone to uncover the appropriate responses. There is no incorrect method to achieve this progression, yet many want to ask themselves inquiries to set themselves up.

The Quiet American Essays - The Quiet American,

The Quiet American Graham Greene's The Quiet American is a tale about adoration. The principle focal point of this affection is from Pyle and Fowler to Phuong. Through the novel Fowler and Pyle fight for this current ladies' affection, however actually Phuong's adoration isn't realistic. The two men even discuss her as an outsider looking, where mirrors their concept of her as an article. Phuong offers herself to the most elevated bidder and is simply searching for the best circumstance for herself. Phuong's whoring character is seen through her associations with three characters over the span of the novel. In Phuong's relationship with Fowler she is dealt with like a whore. Fowler's relationship with Phuong is based on sex. ? ?I couldn't care less that for her inclinations. I just need her body. I need her in bed with me. I'd preferably ruin her and lay down with her over, than . . . care for her doomed advantages,' ? (p 59). While he does later communicate an enthusiasm to separate from his better half and wed Phuong this intrigue just emerged out of the chance of losing her in bed. Fowler doesn't need a profound relationship, he simply needs security and to feel great. This is found in his discussion with Pyle in the pinnacle. ? ?I simply would prefer not to be distant from everyone else in my last decade, that is all,' ? (p 104). Fowler would prefer to be with a lady that he didn't cherish than need to be separated from everyone else. Phuong furnishes a simple lady to get with minimal enthusiastic inclusion. Fowler only level out utilizations Phuong as one would a whore. He takes sex from her and a feeling that all is well with the world. This is in return for supporting her way of life. Fowler's and Phuong's needs praise every others, except Pyle gives an increasingly ambitious chance to Phuong. In her relationship with Pyle she shows that she is so ready to sell herself. She goes behind Fowler, who is the man she is with, to seek after potential outcomes with Pyle. While never straightforwardly said it very well may be construed from the section where Pyle perceives Phuong's strides and the entry where the two look as though they have quite recently separated from kiss. It isn't feasible for her to have genuine feelings for Fowler and be out with Pyle despite Fowler's good faith. She seeks after Pyle for his cash and her craving to see the American ?high rises?, not for the love that Pyle would like to get. Phuong utilized Pyle and never had any obvious affections for him. Fowler understands this the night that Pyle is killed and he is taking opium hits with Phuong. He sees her absence of torment from the loss of Pyle and questions in the event that he was ? ?the one in particular who truly thought about Pyle?' ? (p 22). The entire time Pyle was seeking after a young lady w ho had no affections for him. At the point when his material belongings were not, at this point realistic Pyle was cleaned from Phuong's psyche. In this relationship Phuong's inclination towards selling herself is most handily observed, however it is her sister that takes into consideration an outside view on her prostitution. Phuong's sister can be viewed as a pimp in her dealings with Phuong. In Miss Hei's first gathering with Pyle the main thing she is keen on is how much cash and authority he has in the United States. Fowler sees this and remarks ? ?It seems as if you were looking at Mr. Pyle's marriageability,' ? (p 42). This was actually what Miss Hei was doing. Miss Hei considers Pyle to be a more valuable alternative than Fowler and endeavors to set up a gathering without his essence. ? ?At that point you should come and eat with me and my sister when Monsieur Fowler is gone,' ? (p 43). Miss Hei's enthusiasm for her sister's undertakings has nothing to do with Phuong's bliss. She is just searching for the man with more cash. Miss Hei sells her sisters body for cash, which would thus make Miss Hei a pimp and Phuong a whore. While Phuong can be considered a whore, it doesn't need to be found in a negative light. Her selling of herself originates from need and culture. ? ?It [love] isn't in their tendency. You will find that

Strategic Change at Arup Packaging Limited

Question: Discuss about the Strategic Change at Arup Packaging Limited. Answer: Introduction Strategic changes are nothing but plan made to achieve the companys objective. There can be different reasons behind restructuring the organisation policies such as business expansion, development etc. In simple words, strategic management changes is a practice done by the business enterprises to manage the changes taking place in the structure of company in order to meet the goals. Changes are required to be done with time as it is needed for company to carry on its business and meet the level of competition (Strategic changes, 2017). This report will portray the various strategic changes taking place in Arup Packaging Limited for expanding the business in Europe market. Arup Packaging Limited is a big packaging company. It consist four different types of packaging those are aluminum, glass, paper and plastic base. It majorly operates in the areas of Austria. Following units are arranged on the base of its packaging material. That is aluminum packaging, glass packaging, paper packag ing and plastic packaging. Arup Packaging Limited is a public company serving its services from 50 years. Its distribution centers and sales offices are situated in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane. As well as had recently opened a sales office in Paris. In report will talk on selection process and recruitment criteria of employees for the new plant. AcclaimingRecruitment Practice to Reach the 18-24 Age Group Applicants and More Number of Women There are various recruitment practices that Arup Packaging Limited can implant into their process of recruiting factory workers for European packaging unit. The respective business enterprise can precede recruitments either internally or externally. As the company required employees more than 150 for new branch. For that it has to go with both sources. Internal sources- When recruitment takes place within the company. Transfers Promotions- As the Arup Packaging Limited has experienced employees working with the company from long time and is efficient in their works. The managers can make promotions or transfers of the existing employees to the European unit. Benefit out of this will be that the companies will not require giving training sessions etc. to old employees as they are already familiar to the work profile (Kostopoulos and et.al. 2016). Although this source will not fulfill the motive of Arup Packaging Limited as they want people from the age group between 18-24 and the employees already working are above the 30 years of age. And also the current ratio of women is less comparatively. So I will not recommend this source in regard of the respective packaging unit as a recruitment practice. Hire relatives of members or employees- This is again a good or we can say a decent way to employee people internally. In this the company asks its employees, board of directors and other members to bring their relatives or friends within the company (Dussauge and Garrette, 2016). In return they are given some %age of salary as a reference credit. This is a good way as the employees already working will recommend good employees for its own organisation. So that can be a positive way to recruit new people for European packaging unit. I recommend Arup Packaging Limited should go with this recruitment practice in order to employee new and younger talent within company. External source- Above were some internal source now talking about external sources various practices come into the mind. Those are as follows: Recruitment Agencies- Recruitment agencies are nothing but a private consultancy firms that find candidates in behalf of the companies and in return of it charge fees (Sharkie and et.al, 2013). This can be a good way to find candidates as per the requirements. And this will help the company in finding new and young talent. I think Arup Packaging Limited should implant these techniques of recruitment in order to attract more number of candidates. Press Advertising- This is one of the common and most popular ways to attract candidate these days. Print advertising includes newspapers; journals etc. which has a wide reach (Berger, Kotler and Bickhoff, 2015). As every job seeker these days goes through newspapers and journals to find suitable job for him/ her. I will recommend this method to respective company for recruiting or attracting more candidates for recruitment. Recommending and Justifying the Suitable Selection Criteria for Selecting Employee in Packaging Positions Before setting the criteria it is important to keep in mind the employee requirements of the company. As mentioned in the description the three managers have discussed about the various requirements in regard of the new unit employees. In discussion they find out the lack of young age talent between 18-24 age group and also lack in number of women employees. They decided to employee at least 150 employees for the expansion packaging unit in Europe (Karlsson and Tavassoli, 2016). Along with this they have also mentioned that the employee should be healthy and fit for working in the factory. Also they are required to recruit or select a general manager to head the European Division. The person should be familiar with who both paper and plastic production at least and bonus will be added if they have experience in glass as well as aluminum packaging. Selection Criteria for General manager- Requirements for general manger have been discussed above and accordingly will recommend the selection criteria. Firstly, the company has to go through various application or CV of interested candidates. Then unrequired or less experience and qualified candidate CVs are rejected. Later on selected CV candidates are call for aptitude test (Ghosal, 2015). Aptitude test include test of presence of mind, personality test, intelligence test and basic knowledge required for the job. Once the person is selected then a technical round is held in which person is asked about the field questions. Later if he/she clears the particular tests at last they have to go through a final round. That is of HR round where basically salary packages and hr. discuss other information regarding the company. After that a medical test is also conducted and then final offer letter can be given to the general manger. Selection Criteria for factory workers- For working as a labor no specific knowledge is required. Only the specifications are that the person should be fit and fine. The applications from different source can be screened on the basis of requirement of young people and women. After words the selected one can go through medical test as the work requires a fit and fine person. Later if everything is fine then respective organisation can give offer letter to the newly recruited employees. Afterwards training and development sessions are given to make them comfortable with the work (Rice, Hubbard and Galvin, 2014). Identifying Selection Methods in Order to Ensure that the Selection Criteria is Suitable or Not There are various selection methods for making selection of new employee. Those are: Application forms and CV- This method is important in case of general manger (GM) as it is required certain degrees and knowledge and experience. Description of the candidates is mentioned in there CV and so screening can be done by it. Secondly considering the case of labour selection over there it is not much needed (Galbreath, 2014). As over there candidate are just require to be fit to do manual activity and not technical. Hence this method is justifiable or I will recommend for selection of general manger. Interviews- Again it is important to judge the candidate who applied for general manger post. So HR is required to closely examine him/ her while the interview that the person will be capable or not. While coming in case of factory workers interview are not much needed if they are fit and fine person than direct training should be given. And after words work is required to be observed if he is matching the level or not (Melin, Achtenhagen and Naldi, 2013). Conducting test- there are various types of test such as Psychometric, aptitude, personality tests. I recommend these entire test to be taken for a person applying for GM post as it is great responsibility and company cannot take chance of selecting wrong person. Whereas, in case of recruiting and selection of factory workers only one test is required to be done as per the predetermined qualities. That is medical test to find that if the person is not suffering from any kind of disease or injury. Determining what Type of Benefits and Incentives could Gabrielle and the team Implant in Order to Attract Applicants to the Factory Worker Incentive that Gabrielle should implant to attract candidates for factory worker European packaging position is as follows: Trust your employees- This has been recommended in order to stop the attrition level of the company. As the employees more likely to stay in the organizations where they feel that they add value. And also the company and his/ her bosses trust them in their jobs (Nilsson, Jannesson and Rapp, 2014). Following are some benefits that Gabrielle should insert in order to attract candidates for factory worker European packaging position: Wellness Perks- This benefit is being recommended because the if the employee gets good incentives they feel active and devoted towards their particular work. Give their two hundred percent that further results into increase in the production in factory. Floating holidays- This is another benefit that attracts more and more candidates with the extra paid time off facility (Pesonen and Nyh, 2014). These are extra personal holidays that individual can use anytime during year when he/she is at trip or sick etc. I strongly recommend these incentives and benefits to Gabrielle to implant in the job description to attract more and more candidates. Flexible vacation policies- Under this benefit the employer is required to give the employee a benefit of deciding when and how much vacation time they need. This may help in attracting talented candidate as everyone wants such kind of flexibility in their jobs. That whenever they want holidays they can take. Conclusion In the above report different sources of recruitment whether internal or external both were determined and justified in respect of the given company. Internal sources include transfer, promotions, relatives of existing employees etc. whereas; external sources include press advertisement and so on. Later various selection method such as CV, Interviews, where determined and justified in regard to the Arup Packaging Limited. At last incentives and benefits like trust your employees, wellness perks and floating holidays were also determined to attract more number of candidates. References Books and Journals Nilsson, F. Pain Medication Essays - Kidney Cancer, Renal Cell Carcinoma

What is Kidney Cancer? Fundamentals of Pathophysiology Professor Michael Huwe By: Debora Collard INTRODUCTION Kidney Cancer is when malignant cells form is the tissue of the kidneys. Our kidneys perform many life-sustaining roles. They keep our blood clean of wastes and excess fluid, maintain our balance of salt and minerals, regulate our blood pressure, produce renin, erythropoietin, and vitamin D for good bone health. If cancer forms in our kidneys it can also spread to other parts of our body. It is very important that we be aware of any changes in our kidneys so that we may catch this at an early stage. In this paper I hope to explain the different types of kidney cancer, understanding the risk factors, how to diagnose kidney cancer and how it is staged, treatment options and survival rates and prognosis for the disease. My father had a kidney removed with kidney cancer when I was young and I wanted to learn if I might also be at risk and if so what I need to do. TYPES OF KIDNEY CANCER Renal Cell Carcinoma Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the most common type of Kidney cancer. Malignant cells begin to develop in the lining of tubules in the kidneys, which them becomes a tumor. Like all tumors it will begin small and after a period of time it will become large, but is usually only one single mass. There have been cases where the kidney contains more than one tumor and both kidneys contain a mass. There are five subtypes of renal cell carcinoma ?Clear cell which is about 80% of RCC is where the epithelial tumors cells are pale or transparent when you look at them under a microscope. ?Papillary RCC have a distinct growth pattern of finger-like projections throughout the tumor. Some clear cell RCC can have this similar pattern, but cannot be diagnosed as papillary RCC because of other technical criteria. ?Chromophobe RCC is like clear cell, but the tumor cells have transparent cytoplasm, and have larger cells, making them look unique under a microscope. ?Collecting Duct Carcinoma (CDC) is very rare and is only about 1% of kidney cancers. It is a very fast growing cancer that develops in the distal collecting tubules, and it does not respond well to systemic therapy. ? Unclassified RCC is very rare and is not easily classified. It is a type of cancer that does not fit into any of the above listed types. Other Cancerous Kidney Tumors There are three types of other cancerous tumors; Transitional cell carcinoma, Wilms tumor and Renal sarcoma. ?Transitional cell carcinoma is known as urothelial cancer or renal pelvis. This type of cancer does not start in the kidney, but begins in the renal pelvis. It is usually caused by smoking or being exposed to certain chemical in the workplace. ?Wilm?s Tumor only happens in children and are classified as favorable (usually can be cured) and unfavorable (harder to cure). ?Renal Sarcoma is a rare type of cancers that develops in the blood vessels or connective tissue of the kidney and is also known as soft tissue cancer. These account for less than 1% of cancers. UNDERSTANDING KIDNEY CANCER RISK FACTORS Lifestyle Having a healthy lifestyle will decrease your change of getting kidney cancer. If you smoke you are increasing your chance of kidney cancer because smoking makes your arteries harden and narrows your blood vessels. This decreases the amount of blood that flows to your kidneys and keeps them from working as well. Smoking can also cause you to have high blood pressure, and this only makes it worse. If you have diabetes and you smoke you are doubling your chance of kidney cancer, because these cause you to have kidney problems even sooner. Environmental There are many thing in our environment that are not good for our body such as; Asbestos, Benzene and solvents, Cadmium (used in making batteries, plastic and other industrial items) and herbicides. Health Factors Obesity is a cause of Kidney Cancer, because it can cause you to have high blood pressure and diabetes. If you have a family history of Kidney Cancer you should be very careful and have regular checkups. Other Factors A person?s age, gender, diet and if you

Genetics essays

Genetics essays GENETICALLY ENGINEERED FOODS A RISK TO HUMANITY Giant transnational companies are carrying out a dangerous global experiment by introducing large numbers of genetically engineered foods into our diet. Genetic manipulations can result in unanticipated harmful effects, and because genetically engineered foods are not tested sufficiently, this experiment not only jeopardizes the health of individuals, but could also lead to global food shortages and extensive ecological hazards. Due to genetically modified food's unique and unknown nature, there is potential for adverse health side effects. It is impossible to predict the impact of genetic food, it is a matter of waiting for and observing future consequences. The cross-species transfers being made, such as between fish and tomatoes, would not happen in nature and may create new toxins, diseases, and weaknesses. An example of a possible health detrimental effect is resistance to widely used antibiotics. A new type of maize is currently being produced in the UK. Maize is attacked by the corn borer mite, that chews through the stalks. Genetically modified maize has been produced to be repellent to the mite. The marker gene in the new maize is resistant to ampicllin, an antibiotic. Scientists are concerned that when this maize is eaten, the gene will come in contact and be passed to bacteria living in the human gut. These bacteria would then be resistant to the antibiotic. There is only a slight chance of this occurring, but there is always a first time. Transferring animal genes into plants also raises important ethical issues for vegetarians and religious groups. It may also involve animal experiments that are unacceptable to many people. Once a genetically modified organism has been released into the environment it can reproduce, move and even mutate. After its release, it cannot be recalled. Unlike chemical or nuclear contamination, genetic pollution is perpetual. It can n...

Enculturation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Enculturation - Essay Example I was not a little kid, and my mother did not need to say that grandpa would not come to play with me. I became very sad, and my mother openly talked with me and explained that when our closest people died, they went to a better place. It was difficult for me to believe that grandpa was actually dead. It was the first time I experienced death in my family circle. I had seen death in cartoon and movies, but it was so distant that I had no idea how to cope with feelings related to the loss. Discussion with my mother helped me to understand that our closest people stayed with us in our memories even when they died. She comforted me and showed that she also was sad. Perhaps, her understanding was more helpful than words in that situation. When grandpa died, the atmosphere in our family changed. Parents did not laugh or spent their days as usual. They also wore more black clothing items to show that they were mourning. They were involved in the preparation for funerals and had to arranged many things. The organization of the funeral had to be fast and perfect, so my parents paid much attention to it. I had already observed many things related to the formal part of the funeral, so I did not require additional explanations concerning my behavior. I had more problems with coping with death emotionally. It was difficult to express the feeling of loss because it was so deep. My parents told me that during the funerals people were not expected to hide their feelings. On the contrary, the whole procedure was designed to expressed their sadness. From the movies and observations I had already known that people would be sad; some of them would cry. Being 10 years old, I understood how I was expected to behave during the funeral. Even though some of our relatives arrived with kids, it was not the right place to discuss something or play. All people who arrived at the funeral were dressed in black or dark

College of Business Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

College of Business - Essay Example The world of tomorrow is all about business. Nothing in this world is done without a business transaction or the knowledge of business. No matter what profession you go into, they are all concerned with business because it all comes down to finding a way to make money. The particular major that I am interested in is marketing. Your college offers very detailed and good courses in this subject. Also, the faculty that your college has is excellent. I have chosen marketing because I want to be able to promote products by understanding what people want, satisfy their needs; whenever I use a product or see an advertisement I always think of ways that I could have made it better. I also want to be successful tomorrow and to achieve that success I need to study general Business. It can help me gain a better understanding of the environment and not leave me clueless. It will help me socialize as no business is successful without socialization. A college can shape our future lives. The more we learn at college the better our lives will be. I am not particularly interested in science and medicine. The market for these professions is stagnant while the market for business graduates is increasing and will always be on the rise. There are never enough qualified business graduates and above that there are never enough marketing graduates who understand the market and can promote a product differently.

Marketing Mix Recommendations Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Marketing Mix Recommendations - Essay Example Hygiene is one of the important factors within the food industry and consumers give highest priority to it. Therefore it is highly recommended that the company should only sell hygienic and fresh foods. The pricing should be done on the basis of cost plus pricing method and market penetration strategy can be followed to grab more market share. Regarding the promotional aspect, the company can effectively use television and newspaper advertisement as both the media have mass reach. Finally regarding the distribution, the company can appoint distributors and target food marts to distribute and sell their products. Memorandum Date: 18th October, 2012. Subject: Organic Food for the family Unit To: The Big Boss From: Consumer Research Department To maintain sustainability of a business, it is extremely important to keep hold on the present market share. However after a certain point of time it becomes essential to focus on the ways by which market share can be increased. Greater market sh are helps in increasing the brand recognition. There are some interesting facts about increasing market share. Increasing market share is important only when the company is earning more profits. However it does not have any importance when the market share has increased but the company is losing money. Now in the context of project, Mintel can increase the market share for organic foods and drinks market by considering modifications in their marketing mix. Hence following are the recommendations to Mintel for the primary rationale of attaining more market share. Product Recommendation For an organization to get success in the market place it is imperative to give highest priority to its product stagey (Mcgrath 1-5). Similarly for food industry product is the ultimate element for which a customer pays to the company. Study reveals that among 2000 people, 30 % of the respondents are highly concerned about the safety of foods. Hence for Mintel product strategy should be considered as t he central business strategy. Also the product strategy of an organic food company plays an important role in managing and handling the competition. Furthermore a sound product strategy will be responsible for exemplifying the path of success for Mintel. Now in the context of the study the target group of the company is the family unit, thus in order to cater to that segment the product strategy is vital. The study also reveals that among 181 people, who are living with a partner, 33 % respondents are highly aware of food security. Similarly among the married people 31% of them have high concerns and 47 % have average concern over the food hygiene. Therefore based on the available data, it is highly recommended that the company should only sell hygiene and fresh foods, which will also help them to build an unique selling proposition (USP). Price Recommendation In simple words price is the amount paid by the customer for gaining the ownership of a product from the seller (Kotler and Armstrong 282). Although the concept of price is very simple, but when it comes to actually value a product or service the notion does not exactly remain the same. A pricing strategy is defined as a course of action or an approach in order to achieve the marketing objectives of the company (Pride and Ferrell 318). Hence pricing strategy is crucial towards the acceptance of the product or service in the market plac

Interpersonal Relationships In Swamp Angel and Fifth Business Essay

Interpersonal Relationships In Swamp Angel and Fifth Business In the novel Swamp Angel the main character, Maggie, asserts that "swimming is like living , it is done alone". This is, in fact, a very telling statement with respect to the life of both Maggie and the life of Dunstan, the main character in the novel The Fifth Business. Maggie's comparison of life to swimming raises interesting points about the way in which each of the two characters proceed along the road of life. Maggie's statement is actually a simile which compares swimming alone to living life. In most cases a simile is used to take certain characteristics of one entity and to bestow them upon another entity in which they are not usually found. Maggie's comparison of swimming alone to life is no different. It is generally held, in modern society, that life is a journey that is made with the help of others. Intimate interpersonal relationships are viewed as support systems in life. Many people view these relationships as that which makes life worth living. Maggie's statement directly refutes these claims. When one is swimming alone there is no one to rely on for safety and guidance. The owness of survival, in essence not drowning, falls squarely upon the shoulders of the swimmer alone. Maggie's comparison leads one to believe that the same is true for life. In life , as in swimming alone, one should rely only on oneself for survival. Maggie's comparison of life and swimming alone, and all that it implies, can easily be viewed as the personal motto that both Maggie and Dunstan live by. Each character is very strong willed and independent as one would expect. Anyone who lives life alone would have to be both of these. the characters also sha... ...stan to be less of a man and in turn himself to be the greater man. Through analyzing the personal relationships of both Maggie and Dunstan many similarities can be found. Both characters display a pattern of maintaining relationships which lack depth. that is to say that the relationships never reach an emotional level where intimacy is evident. I also becomes evident that both characters pride themselves on independence. Neither character is willing to lean on another person , as this is viewed as weakness. If these characters can be viewed as spokespeople for Ethel Wilson and Robertson Davies it would seem as though both authors would agree with Maggies statement that "swimming is like living, it is done alone". This statement is defiantly applicable to both characters but it seems dangerous to assume that the characters are representative of the authors.

I am Legend Essay

When thinking of horror films, simple features come to mind for what you need to produce a good movie. Monsters are always a big plus in order to get a good scare factor. A good horror film will have drama that usually leads to the death of a main character or other supporting characters. I believe I Am Legend is a good contender for a low-key horror film. Under the direction of Francis Lawrence was a film written by Mark Protosevich. In 2007 this movie was a big hit in the theaters, for its incredibly gritty and strong story line. Actor Will Smith played the part of the Main character Robert Neville, who thought he found the cure for cancer but in fact spread a disease out through the world. The whole movie is played in New York City, were David a scientist announces he has a cure for cancer when in fact it is a plague that turn the people into monsters. So the plot of the movie is David Surviving in New York by himself, trying to test rats for the cure to the virus. That catch to the movie is that all the monsters are contagious and only come out at sun down to find other humans to spread the virus. In this movie you had a lot of glimpses and scenes that would show that this movie could be a horror film. The two examples of horror films I used in the first paragraph are shown in many scenes of I Am Legend. The virus that spread through the people made them monsters and in a good horror film you need a scary, deadly, nasty monster to be the antagonist. The monsters in I Am Legend are the typical creature for a horror film. They are not easy to look at which gives into a scarier character. They are very mean and ruthless and show no mercy. The last feature that is a main feature is that they will kill with no questions. The drama part of a horror film usually ends with death and the scene usually has a lot of anticipation on it to put you on the edge of your seat. In I Am Legend when David is out doing his rounds and gets baited into a booby trap he gets knocked out and wakes up in the trap a little too late. The monsters are waiting for the sun to come down to attack and infect David. In a showing of great effort but significant downfall David’s dog Sam) is attacked and becomes infected. Almost turning on its own owner David is forced to kill his only sort of companionship and is left alone for the time being. The director did a good job with this movie because he produced a good storyline built with a lot of anticipation. I believe that he did try and put in that scary horror effect with the darkness of the movie and the frightening creatures. Even though I Am Legend is characterized as a â€Å"dramatic thriller†, in most instances it can definitely be considered a horror film.
